Though Samajwadi supremo Mulyam Singh Yadav had won the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in 2014 by a margin of 36466 by defeating his nearest BJP rival Shatrughan Singh Chauhan, the former had trailed behind the latter in the Bhongaon assembly segment by 1140 votes. Needless to say, BJP will try to give SP a run for money in the coming 2017 assembly elections.
